If you have ever tried gel nail polish, you know that there is no going back; this unique technique lets you enjoy flawless nails for weeks, with gorgeous colors and designs.

However, it also needs quite a bit of maintenance; gel nail polish should be applied with special equipment, and the same goes for the removal. Luckily, you can remove gel polish at home, and save money every time you do it. Here is what you need to do to remove gel nail polish without harming your natural nails:

First thing’s first: the equipment

To reduce risk to your nail and to get good results, you need the following in your nail kit:

  • Nail filer – 180 grit
  • Nail and cuticle oil
  • Cotton balls
  • Nail polish remover (preferably gel nail polish remover)
  • Aluminum foil – 10 squares to wrap each nail in its entirety (about three inches on three inches)
  • Nail stick

How to remove gel nail polish

Now that you have a gel polish remover nail kit, here is how to use it:

  1. Sit in a well-ventilated area. The removal will take approximately 30 minutes, so you need time to sit in a ventilated place. Then, begin the removal by filing your nails. Sand down the top layer of the polish (the topcoat), and stop when you reach the colored layer.
  2. Apply a protective oil: in step 3, you will need to soak the nail polish in nail polish remover. It can harm your cuticles and nails, so you need to protect them. Apply protective cuticle oil on the skin that surrounds your nails, as well as your fingertips and cuticles.
  3. To thoroughly remove gel nail polish, you need to soak your nails in nail polish remover. Take out the cotton balls and the remover from your nail kit, and soak the balls in the remover. Make sure the cotton balls are saturated – this is key to removing the nail polish.
  4. Put the soaked cotton balls on your nails, and press them lightly. Then, wrap each nail with aluminum foil. Wait 10-15 minutes, and peek inside one nail to check the progress. What should you be expecting? The gel nail polish needs to look like it is falling off the nails, which will make it easily removable.
  5. Remove the gel nail polish: if the gel nail polish is peeling off, take off the aluminum foil and cotton balls. Apply pressure with the cotton balls to remove as much polish as possible. Then, take out the nail stick from the nail kit, and apply gentle pressure to scrape off the remaining nail polish.

What next?

After removing gel nail polish, your natural nails will feel weaker. To strengthen them and to keep them strong, you need to nourish the nails. Apply a quality moisturizer on your hands after you finish removing the gel nail polish. Also, use natural cuticle cream, like the one in the TrySprig nail kit, to make your nails strong. The formula in the TrySprig kit is all-natural, certified organic, and dermatologically approved, so it will liven up your nails.

So, now that you know how to remove gel nail polish, you can do it at home! With a gel polish removal kit, you can save yourself time and money, and remove gel nail polish in a few easy steps.
