The mosque represents an abode or House of Allah s.w.t. in which He is revered and worshipped by prayer. The daily five prayers the additional (Sunnah) prayers as well as saying prayers, the Quran, Zikir (remembrance of Allah s.w.t.) and many other acts of good acts. According to the Quran,

“And (He revealed) that the mosques are for Allah, so do not invoke with Allah anyone.”

(Surah Al-Jinn, 72:18)

Its sanctity must be protect. As mentioned in the Quran,

“Had Allah not driven back the people, some by the means of others, there would have been demolished monasteries, churches, synagogues and mosques, in which the name of Allah is much mentioned. Allah will certainly help those who stand up for Him. Allah is truly All-Powerful, Almighty.”

(Surah Al-Hajj, 22:40)

The practice of sitting in mosques in the hope of performing “Ibadah” for the sake for the sake of Allah (I’tikaf) can an act of worship within Islam.

The importance of mosques is so that the very first building that which the prophet s.a.w. constructed when he arrived at Madinah was the Madinah mosque. It was the main spot to the worship of Muslims. It also served as a spot for gatherings to study the religion , and a site of councils in which The Prophet s.a.w. as well as his associates r.a. discuss crucial issues including guarding Madinah from attack. Madinah from the threat of the enemy.

Virtues of Mosques

There are many merits and virtues with regard to mosques. Here are four of them:

1.  Mosque is one of the loved spot to Allah

Abu Hurairah r.a. reported that the Prophet s.a.w. said,

“The dearest parts on the face of the earth to Allah are its mosques, and the most hated parts to Allah are its markets.”

(Sahih Muslim)

The mosques are among the most adore place for Allah. You can learn Quran with Tajweed at mosque from a qualified teacher. Since they serve as places where believers gather in worship of Allah s.w.t. and perform a variety of good acts being performed in mosques. The reason for the market and the reason they are among the most feared by Allah is due to the fact that they are the places where people typically engage in dishonest transactions, violate promises and are generally free of the remembrances of Allah s.w.t. Such deviances revoke His mercy. Therefore, it’s not the place itself but the sins that were attributable to these locations. 2. The hearts of mosques are destined to be in the protection of Allah in the Infinite.

Abu Hurairah r.a. reported that the Prophet s.a.w. told in a fabled long hadith that:

“Seven are (the persons) whom Allah will give Shade of His Throne on the Day when there would be no shade other than His Throne’s Shade: A just ruler; a youth who grew up worshipping Allah; a man whose heart is attach to mosques; two persons who love and meet each other and depart from each other for the sake of Allah; a man whom an extremely beautiful woman seduces (for illicit relation), but he (rejects this offer by saying): ‘I fear Allah’; a man who gives in charity and conceals it (to such an extent) that the left hand does not know what the right has given; and a person who remembers Allah in solitude and his eyes well up”

(Muttafaqun ‘Alayh)

One of the types of people in the hadith mention is “a person who is deeply attach with mosques’. They will always long to visit mosques in order to offer daily prayers to the congregation. The person will find time to pray for Allah s.w.t in order to feel in touch with Him. They may also be engaged in volunteer work and helping with mosques. According to their ability, despite other obligations, in order to obtain Allah’s blessing in the form of the blessings of redha.

3. Rasulullah s.a.w. was praying for a woman that was serving in the mosque

The other companion Abu Hurairah r.a was reported as:

A dark-complexioned woman (or a youth) used to clean the mosque. Rasulullah s.a.w. missed her (or him) and inquired about her (or him). The people told him that she (or he) had died. He asked why didn’t they inform him, and it appears as if they had considered the matter insignificant. He (the Prophet s.a.w.) said: Lead me to her (or his) grave. They led him to that place and he prayer for her (or him)

(Sahih Muslim)

In a different account the name of her was listed in another narration as Ummu Mihjan r.a.

This hadith demonstrates the virtues of a religious person who acts with integrity in the house of Allah s.w.t. Though to some, she is just someone who cleaned the mosque, but in reality she holds a unique place within the hearts of Rasulullah s.a.w. Although she may not be considered a hero in the eyes of other people. However, look at how Allah s.w.t. made her a higher priority before his eyes. s.a.w. Don’t discount a great act, no matter how insignificant or unimportant it may appear to us.

“Whoever goes to the mosque at dawn or dusk (for Solat), Allah prepares a hospitable abode for him in Paradise, every time when he walks to or comes back from it”

(Muttafaqun ‘Alayh)

Commitment to the Mosque

In Singapore we have a lot to be thankful for because we have a variety of mosques across the country that we can visit and pray our every day prayers. They are also offering various social and religious initiatives for the Muslim community as well as Singaporeans in general. While doing this they certainly need our help and support, like donations to support the management and activities that the mosques conduct.

Mosque Final Words

We are thankful that we are able to thank Allah s.w.t. that we are able to continue visiting our mosques to pray during the Covid-19 period, and slowly for other activities, too with some security precautions in the place. May Allah s.w.t. give His eternal blessings to our sisters and brothers. Who are working all both day and night, to make sure that safety measures are carried out smoothly to ensure our security and safety.
